OURS Studios, DeKalb County

April 24, 2023 | BestLifeGlenn

I had a chance to attend the grand opening of OURS Studios on April 19, 2023. The facility is located off of Panola Road in the warehouse area at 5311 Dividend Drive, Decatur.

OURS Studios is a multi-functional facility specializing in film production, podcasting and event planning. It  is the brainchild of Ron Bivins, a native of Americus, Georgia and graduate of Morris Brown College. Bivens  established the studios acronym: Original United Recording Stars.

The facility  is equipped with a full audio room, a rehearsal stage, a green, white, and blue room, and makeup and dressing rooms.

Several community leaders and elected officials attended the celebration including Stonecrest City Councilman Robert Turner(above left), who heads the Stonecrest Film Commission, and DeKalb County Commissioner Mereda Davis Johnson. The celebration included a ribbon-cutting ceremony, tour of the building, program and reception.

One of the earliest initiatives and greatest notoriety-to-date of OURS Studios is a historical documentary entitled, “As If We Were Ghosts,” which debuted in prime-time slots in June 2022 on Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB). The  nation’s third-largest public broadcasting system reaches 3.4 million households. “As If We Were Ghosts” is streaming on Amazon Prime, asifwewereghosts.tv, Pzaz, and soon will be on TST Networks, according to Bivins.

At the event, we had a chance to network with a number of people and re-connect with others including trailblazer Dr. Eugene Walker, a long-time DeKalb County community activist. It was great to see him and take a selfie with him. Dr. Walker served as a State Senator for Georgia’s 43rd District from 1984 until 1992. He also served as  commissioner of the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice from 1995 to 1999 and countless other boards including chair of the DeKalb County School Board.

I’m glad Val and I were invited to this awesome celebration. Wishing Ron Bivins much success
