8th Annual Black Music Honors, Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre

Comedic movie actor Deray Davis(“Barbershop” series and “Jumping the Broom”) and two-time Grammy award winner Letoya Luckett co-hosted the May 19, 2023 event. The pair wowed the audience, appearing in an array of dazzling outfits as they kept everyone in stitches with their antics and stage bloopers. This year marked the 8th Annual Black Music Honors awards produced by Don Jackson, founding chairman and CEO of Stellar Network. The awards will premiere on the Stellar Network on June 3, 8 p.m. EST, in celebration of national Black Music Month. Mark your calendars

Missy Elliott, cultural icon, was celebrated for her unprecedented success including 22 Grammy nominations and sales exceeding 30 million in the U.S. Alone.

Jeffrey Osborne, the “woo, woo, woo” song, “You Should Be Mine,” paid tribute to his mother, who is deceased, and his wife, Sherrie, for their unwavering support during his acceptance speech.

SWV, the female trio whose hits include “I’m So Into You,” “Dowtown” and “You’re Always on My Mind,” paid tributes to several people as they thanked fans and accepted their award.

Disco queen Evelyn “Champagne” King, whose hits include “Love Come Down,” “Shame,” and “I’m in Love,” gave a stirring testimony about growing up in The Bronx, NY and surviving the Delta variant of COVID-19.

Gospel greats: Members of The Hawkins Family thanked everyone for their support throughout their stellar carer. The family group included Edwin, Walter Lynnette, and in-law Lady Tramaine Hawlins. Edwin pinned the song, “Oh Happy Day” in 1969, which became the first 1 million selling gospel recording.

Val and I stepped out in green for the Black Music Honors event. It was our first time at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center. We had great seats and a great time. Who knows? You might see us in the audience when the program is televised on June 3.
