DeKalb County Commissioner Larry Johnson celebrates 55

Taking a selfie with my wife, Valerie,Commissioner Larry Johnson and my mother-in-law, Juliette, who is a great fan of her commissioner.

Larry Johnson turned the big 55 in May! Constituents, family, friends and several elected officials joined Larry and his wife, Dr. Tanisha Johnson(pictured standing with him below), for the milestone birthday celebration on Sunday, May 21. The event took place at the Crest Center in South DeKalb.

I snapped photos of several well-wishers who paid tributes to Johnson for his 20 years of service to the community on the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners. Guests enjoyed a live band, dancing and a buffet.

Johnson announced the release of a new book, “Governing on the Ground,” featuring the testimonies of 30 county leaders from across the country including himself. Johnson is one of 15 leaders who is pictured on the cover of the book.

A project of the National Association of Counties(NACo), the book offers a glimpse into the county leaders’ innovative efforts to address critical issues such as human trafficking, terroristic attacks, workforce development, homelessness and natural disasters. Johnson, who s served as President  of NACo from July 2021 to July 2022 and numerous leadership roles in NACo since 2005, is a big proponent of health equity in underserved communities and support surrounding homelessness.

BestLifeGlenn salutes Commissioner Johnson for his care and concern.
