GA Rep. Doreen Carter Turns 60

Irvin, who is unrelated to Larry, flexed his passion for music from the 1960s by recalling hits from the 60s in a name-that-tune game played by the band at the party. Georgia Rep. Doreen Carter ( very top photo, center) shared her birthday celebration with former State Rep. Donna McLeod(left) and State Rep. Viola Davis(right). Guests sang happy birthday to the trio during Carter’s celebration, which was held at the Pink Lion Jazz Club inside the New Black Wall Street Market in the city of Stonecrest on March 18, 2023. The Saturday event lasted until midnight so that Doreen could bring in her actual birthday with family and friends on March 19. She shared with those attending that she was thankful for her milestone birthday, having survived a heart attack and stroke. It was a moving testimony and great inspo for many including me. Several elected officials were among those who helped Doreen to celebrate this happy occasion. We all went down memory lane naming the artists from the 1960s as the live band played the songs. DeKalb County Tax Commissioner Irvin Johnson, seated near me, didn’t miss one! Others were doing some of the dances from that era. And then there were those who hadn’t been born yet, well, they were acting like they knew the songs. Doreen took the stage and sang a song for the audience. I didn’t know the girl could sing!
