O’Charleys, Conyers, GA

After attending a Valentine’s Day tea earlier in the day at the East DeKalb Senior Center in Lithonia, I took Val and granddaughter, Luna, out for dinner. Hadn’t visited O’Charley’s in a while but I was glad that we chose this casual spot for our celebration. The food was good and the prices were wallet-friendly—even on Valentine’s Day. O’Charley's offers a varied menu: burgers, chicken, pasta, baby back ribs, steak, seafood, salads, soups, wraps, bowls and its fresh-baked rolls.

We arrived around 7:30 p.m. and we were pleasantly surprised that we were seated immediately. I think we must have arrived just ahead of the crowd. By the time we finished our meal, the restaurant had filled up with couples, families, and big parties. We started our dinner with a delicious appetizer: crispy, buttermilk-fried shrimp and tasty stuffed crabs. For my main course, I  had the New Orleans Cajun Chicken Pasta and a side of grilled asparagus. Val  had the smaller portion of blackened salmon, herbed rice and grilled asparagus. Luna, who doesn’t eat meat, ordered alfredo pasta and a side of broccoli. That 7-year-old can eat! She devoured the entire entree.

We were in good company during our Valentine’s Day visit at O’Charley’s. We  were seated near some good friends—Julius and Susan Lee. Of course, we snapped some selfies. We often run into the Lees at various restaurants and stop to catch up on life.

You can’t help but love O’Charley’s hot-out-of-the-oven golden, pillow-like rolls. The shrimp and stuffed crab is my favorite appetizer.

Luna was ready to dig into her alfredo pasta and broccoli. She ate ALL of everything.

Val’s dish: Blackened salmon, herbed rice and grilled asparagus. The salmon comes in two sizes and Val chose the smaller portion. I ordered a side of asparagus to accompany the New Orleans Cajun Chicken pasta that I had(pictured below).

O’Charley's has some new items on the menu: loaded chicken tenders nachos,  meatball crostini (Italian- style meatballs made with beef, pork, herbs and ricotta and Romano cheeses and fresh basil served on toasted garlic bread with marinara sauce); a Chicken Bacon Ranch sandwich; and Tiramisu mini coffee-flavored sponge cakes for dessert.

There are a number of reasonably-priced specials that are offered all day Monday through Thursday. O’Charley’s also offers a variety of $9.99 lunch specials, Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. I didn’t see the familiar free pie offer on Wednesdays but there was a $1.99 cobbler special.  I was too stuffed for dessert but I plan on going back to check out the desserts and sandwiches. You’ll also find several cocktail and beer specials on the menu.

The Conyers location is at 1289 Dogwood Drive, Conyers. The restaurant chain has 9 locations in Georgia.
